| All our Ni'ihau Leis are made with 100 % shells actually gathered on Ni'ihau by the families which live there. Although Momi and Kahelelani shells may be found on some of the other Hawaiian islands, all our shells come from the beaches of Ni'ihau. A certificate of authenticity will be provided with each purchase, along with information on how to have your lei appraised and insured. What you should know about buying a Ni'ihau Lei: On May 28, 2004, Hawaii Governor Linda Lingle signed Act 91 into law. The provisions of the bill are as follows: " Jewelry labeled as Ni'ihau Jewlery must be made with at least 80 percent shells gathered from Ni'ihau, and strung within the state". As a purchaser, you should be given the percentage content of Ni'ihau shells in your lei. Note that according to the law, the shells must come from the island of Ni'ihau. Please ask any company offering you a Ni'ihau lei if they will certify that their shells are from Ni'ihau.
Many of our Ni'ihau leis are custom made, and therefore each is a special order. If you see something you like, please feel free to contact us at: orders@treasuresofniihau.com with any questions or special requests you have.
The pictures show the basic lei colors, and sometimes there are more colorful leis available to us as well. Availability of a particular lei is dependent on what the ocean provides, and, in the case of multi-strand or complex leis, requires additional time to create. We may ask you to only put down a deposit if your special lei will require extra time for us to create.
